Reverse DNS (rDNS) delegation for IPv4 address blocks (Part 2)

Click the [Delegate] button next to the IP address block selected on the list of IP blocks available for delegation to begin the reverse DNS delegation process. This process is divided into three steps, and the system shows the information entered in each one. The steps that must be completed are: 

1) Add the block and DNS servers 

In the first section, the block that was previously selected using the [Delegate] button will be automatically entered as the [New delegation]. However, you can manually change the block and prefix for which you wish to register the rDNS (it must be part of the previously selected parent block) and click the [Add] button.

As blocks are added, they will be included in the selection list. You can also delete a block that was added by mistake:

Below the selected IP blocks, there are multiple fields where you must enter the DNS server that will be responsible for their reverse resolution. You will be able to specify the primary server and add multiple secondary/alternative servers.

Relevant: Note that servers must be specified in Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) format. Entering the DNS server's IP address or alias is not allowed.

After entering the information for the servers, click [Next].

Important: DNSSERVICIOS.LACNIC.NET and DNSSERVICIOS2.LACNIC.NET are the DNS servers used in this example. These are DNS test servers and only work with the IP addresses used in the example. To properly configure your DNS, you must use your own domain. Before adding to MiLACNIC the domain names you configured in your DNS, the DNS server must be properly configured for the IP addresses that will be delegated.

2) Check the zones (system verification)

• Once you enter the servers and click the [Next] button, the system will check the servers and display their status in the form shown below.

• Check zone validity: The system checks the nameservers entered in the previous step to determine their validity.
  • Authoritative servers are shown as follows: . In this case, the delegation process can continue.
  • DNS Error: A nameserver with a DNS error appears as follows: . In this case, it's not possible to continue with the process.
  • Unknown Host: An unknown nameserver will be displayed as follows: . In this case, it's not possible to continue with the process. 

Keep in mind that if even a single zone contains an error, the system will not allow you to continue with the process. Only rDNS entries whose zones are correct will be accepted.

• In this case, the [Next] button will only allow you to continue to the final step of the process if the DNS servers you entered are authoritative servers.

3) Confirm the creation of the zones

The final step of the reverse DNS delegation process shows a summary of the data you processed, which will be confirmed once the process is complete:

• • Organization 
  • IP address ranges or blocks involved
  • Primary or master nameserver
  • Secondary or slave nameserver

To complete the reverse DNS delegation (rDNS) process, click the [Next] button on this screen.

* In case of error, this process can be repeated by editing the reverse DNS delegation to restore the previous configuration.
